Jigokudani   Leave a comment

Jigokudani (Japanese for “Hell Valley”) is a national park in Japan which is famous for its geothermal activity.  There are several hot spring pools, one of which produces a steaming stream which flows through the surrounding forest.

Jigokudani is probably more famous for the users of its hot springs than the hot springs themselves, though.  Japanese Macaques, or Snow Monkeys, bathe in the hot springs, and even have a few pools reserved exclusively for their use.
