In Street Fighter II: The World Warrior each player chooses one of eight fighters: Ryu, E. Honda, Blanka, Guile, Ken, Chun Li, Zangief, or Dhalsim.  Two players playing simultaneously will compete against each other, while one player playing alone will fight the other playable characters, then four bosses: Balrog, Vega, Sagat, and M. Bison.

Street Fighter II is the game most responsible for spawning the fighting game genre as we know it today.  It was designed by Akira Nishitani and Akira Yasuda and produced by Capcom in 1991.
